Busitema University Soroti Campus has been closed and all students sent home due to 2 weeks of unrelenting students riots over both administrative and student issues mismanagement

Police has been firing tear gas and rubber bullets in the fight with students for a full week but students relentlessly fought on for there rights.

Vice chancellor Prof. Mary Okwakol declared the University closed Thursday afternoon and all students ordered out.

Nampeera Maureen a student at the university told the spear News that they have been striking Over remote administration of the university by administrators who stay away, abnormal tuition increment and imparting a guild president on students.

Guild elections at this University have always been a serious source of contention and twice led to students strike.

In 2013 students rioted and the university closed over guild elections and in 2014 students in Busitema main campus Tororo went riotous over failure by management to hold guild elections .

Basitema University operates in Eastern Uganda with different faculties at different locations. They include;

Faculty of health science Mbale, faculty of engineering Busitema campus, faculty of science, Nagongera and faculty of natural resources Namasagali among others.
