South Sudan elects EALA MPs, 3 Females unopposed

South Sudan parliament is set to elect 9 MPs to represent it in East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), this Thursday.

South Sudan’s parliament in June revoked the nomination of its nine legislators who had been hand picked by President Kiir following a Tanzania court injunction on their swearing-in due to irregularities in their nomination process.

Today 3 female candidates have been elected unopposed, they include: Ann Itto, Gai Nhial Deng Nhial from the ruling SPLM party and an independent Wudo Jeremiah Odok

A total of 26 names have been presented to the MPs out of whom only six will be picked Thursday to top the 3 unopposed

Philip Jiben Ogal, the deputy head of the parliamentary committee for information has told press that voting has been pushed to Thursday to give time and chance for contestants to campaign among MPs
