INSECURITY: Police resorts to training civilians Taekwondo

The police Commander for Kampala Metropolitan, CP. Mwesigwa Frank has said that police is finalizing plans to train civilians in taekwondo to enable them defend themselves against thugs.

This was revealed by Mwesigwa while meeting local leaders of  Katwe Police Division on Tuesday, Mwesigwa asked them to identify interested resident that will benefit from the free training lessons by the police force.

He also promised to bring government programs such as Operation Wealth Creation closer to communities that are affected and also help civilians that are working closely with police to alleviate themselves from poverty.

As he launched and sensitized about the “Mayumba Kumi” concept,he stressed that compared to the 1971 Mayumba Kumi system in Tanzania, Uganda police has chosen to rebrand/rebuild a stronger security system based on a 10+4 concept where out of the 10 households, 4 people are chosen as members of the lookout teams.

He added that the selection will be based on discipline and willingness to work with the force, Mwesigwa called tasked OCs to senstitse masses about the concept as they register them.
